MS Walk 2016
April 23, 2016 @ 9:30 am - 1:00 pm
As part of Extraordinary League NPO’s Health initiative, this health event will serve as an opportunity to raise awareness about Multiple Sclerosis and to continue to support the efforts to improve quality of life and find a cure for those patients with the disease.
Multiple Sclerosis is an unpredictable disease of the central nervous system characterized by the formation of lesions affecting any area of the central nervous system. Where the lesions are present usually determines the type of symptoms these patients suffer ranging from decreased cognition, muscle spasticity, and fatigue, to complete disability.
There is currently no cure for Multiple Sclerosis. The goal of treatment is to decrease the number of relapses amongst patients with relapsing forms of the disease, while also treating the symptoms and side effects of the disease. The cost of medication for a single patient usually ranges from $5,000 to 8,000 dollars.
This event will prove to show that The Extraordinary League supports research for a cure for Multiple Sclerosis and is another opportunity for the organization to continue to make a difference in the lives of others.
The Extraordinary League will create and register a team for the event. We have purchased t-shirts to be worn on the day of the event and will use them as an opportunity to fundraise to support the cause. All funds raised this year will go to support one of our own members who has been battling Multiple Sclerosis for a number of years. The funds will help to provide money for transportation to and from doctor appointments, will help cover any co-pays she may have, and will hopefully decrease any other burden she make have relating to her condition.
